Assigning and commenting on actions

Assign actions to people or teams, add comments, and collaborate.

Actions work best when someone owns them and the team can collaborate on the follow-up. Genuics gives you assignment, commenting, mentions, and notifications to keep everyone in the loop.

Assign an action to a person

Every action should have a clear owner. The assignee is the person responsible for driving the action to resolution.

  1. Open the action from the Actions page.
  2. Click the Assignee field in the detail view.
  3. Search for and select a team member from the dropdown.
  4. The assignment saves immediately. The assignee receives a notification.

You can also set the assignee when creating the action - it's one of the fields in the creation form.

Assign an action to a team

In addition to a person, you can assign an action to a team. This is useful when:

  • The right individual isn't known yet, but the responsible team is
  • You want the action to show up when filtering by team
  • Multiple people on the team need visibility
  1. Open the action detail view.
  2. Click the Team field.
  3. Select a team from the dropdown.

Team assignment doesn't replace the individual assignee - you can have both. The team field is primarily for organization and filtering.

Reassign an action

Priorities shift and people go on vacation. You can reassign an action at any time.

  1. Open the action detail view.
  2. Click the current Assignee name.
  3. Select a different team member from the dropdown.
  4. The new assignee is notified, and the reassignment is logged in the activity history.

Add comments

Comments are the main collaboration space for an action. Use them to share findings, ask questions, post updates, and document decisions.

  1. Open the action detail view.
  2. Scroll down to the Comments section.
  3. Type your comment in the text field. You can use basic formatting (bold, italic, bullet lists).
  4. Click Post to publish the comment.

Comments appear in chronological order, so the thread reads like a conversation.

Good commenting habits

  • Post updates when you make progress. A quick "Reviewed the data, root cause is X, working on a fix" keeps the team informed.
  • Explain status changes. When you move an action to Blocked, add a comment: "Blocked on approval from Legal - ETA Friday."
  • Link to external resources. Paste URLs to related tickets, documents, or Slack threads for context.
  • Keep it concise. Comments should add value, not noise.

@mention team members

When you need someone's attention on an action, mention them in a comment.

  1. In the comment text field, type @ followed by the person's name.
  2. Select the person from the autocomplete dropdown.
  3. Finish your comment and click Post.
  4. The mentioned person receives a notification with a link to the action and your comment.

Mentions are useful when you need input from someone who isn't the assignee. For example: "@Sarah, can you pull the verbatim feedback for this segment? I need it for the root cause analysis."

Notifications

Genuics sends notifications to keep people informed about actions they're involved with. You'll receive notifications when:

EventWho gets notified
Assigned to youThe new assignee
ReassignedThe new assignee
Mentioned in a commentThe mentioned person
New commentThe action assignee and anyone subscribed to the action
Status changedThe action assignee and anyone subscribed

Notifications appear in the notification bell in the top navigation bar. Depending on your settings, you may also receive email notifications.

Manage your notification preferences

If you're getting too many (or too few) notifications:

  1. Click your profile avatar in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.
  2. Go to Notification Settings.
  3. Toggle individual notification types on or off - for example, you might turn off comment notifications for actions you're subscribed to but keep mention notifications on.

For full details, see Profile and notification settings.

Subscribe to an action

You don't have to be the assignee to follow an action's progress. Subscribing gives you notifications for all updates on that action.

  1. Open the action detail view.
  2. Click the Subscribe button (bell icon) in the top-right area of the detail view.
  3. You'll now receive notifications for comments, status changes, and reassignments on this action.

To unsubscribe, click the bell icon again.
