Creating a dashboard

How to create, name, and configure a new dashboard from the Dashboards browser.

A dashboard is your home base for visualizing data. You can create as many as you need - one per team, per project, or per question you want to answer.

Create a new dashboard

  1. Click Dashboards in the sidebar to open the dashboard browser.
  2. Click the New Dashboard button in the top-right corner.
  3. Enter a name for your dashboard. Choose something descriptive so your team can find it later - for example, "Q2 Customer Satisfaction" or "Weekly Sales Pipeline".
  4. Optionally add a description to give context about what the dashboard tracks or who it's for.
  5. Click Create. Your new dashboard opens in a tab, ready for widgets.

Dashboard settings

After creating a dashboard, you can fine-tune its settings at any time. Click the gear icon in the toolbar or open Dashboard Settings from the toolbar menu.

Name and description

You can rename your dashboard or update its description whenever the scope changes. The name appears in the sidebar, in tabs, and in shared links, so keep it clear and specific.

Accent color

Each dashboard can have its own accent color. This color appears in the toolbar and helps you visually distinguish dashboards when you have several open in tabs. Pick a color that makes sense for the team or topic - green for success metrics, red for escalations, blue for product analytics.

Grid columns

The grid columns setting controls how many columns your widget grid has. A higher number gives you more flexibility for narrow widgets side by side. A lower number keeps things simple with wider widgets.

  • 12 columns (default) - works well for most layouts. You can place two, three, or four widgets across a row.
  • 8 columns - a simpler grid for dashboards with fewer, larger widgets.
  • 16 columns - extra precision for dense dashboards with many small KPI cards.

Sharing during creation

You can set up sharing right from the creation dialog, or add it later.

  • Viewers can see the dashboard and interact with filters, but they can't add, edit, or remove widgets.
  • Editors can modify everything - add widgets, change settings, and rearrange the layout.

You can share with individual users by name or email, or with entire teams. If your organization has teams set up (e.g., "Marketing" or "Customer Support"), sharing with a team grants access to every current and future member of that team.

Favorite a dashboard

If there's a dashboard you open every day, mark it as a favorite. Click the star icon next to the dashboard name in the browser, or click the star in the dashboard toolbar when you have it open.

Favorited dashboards appear at the top of your dashboard browser under a dedicated "Favorites" section, so you can get to them in one click. You can favorite as many dashboards as you like - there's no limit.

To remove a favorite, click the star icon again. The dashboard stays in your browser, it just moves back to the main list.

Duplicating a dashboard

If you have a dashboard that's close to what you need for a new project, you can duplicate it rather than starting from scratch.

  1. In the dashboard browser, find the dashboard you want to duplicate.
  2. Right-click the dashboard (or click the more menu on its card).
  3. Select Duplicate.
  4. A copy is created with the name "Copy of [original name]." Open it and rename it to something more meaningful.

The duplicate includes all widgets, pages, and layout settings from the original. Filters and sharing settings are not copied - the duplicate starts with no filters and is visible only to you.

Organizing your dashboards

As you create more dashboards, the browser becomes your directory. A few tips for keeping things manageable:

  • Use clear names - "NPS by Region (Monthly)" is better than "Dashboard 3."
  • Add descriptions - even a one-liner like "Used in the Monday standup" helps your team understand the purpose.
  • Favorite your top 3-5 - this keeps your most-used dashboards at the top of the list.
  • Archive what you don't need - if a dashboard was for a one-time analysis, you can delete it to reduce clutter.
